Mama Vera was born in 1946 at Zakaki village located on the outskirts of the city of Limassol in the southern coast of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. Her mother, Yiayia Maroulla, made sure Vera (being the oldest of 6 siblings) learned how to cook and take care of them at the age of 13 while her parents were working in the fields. I grew up enjoying her food very much. I was so intrigued by mom's cooking that I learned som of her "kitchen art" while helping her around the kitchen.
